The shipbuilding unit of HJ Shipbuilding & Construction Co., formerly Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction Co., has won a 85.1 billion won ($68.2 million) order to build a 3,000-ton police patrol ship.

According to HJ Shipbuilding & Construction on Tuesday, the 120- meter- long patrol ship will be equipped with a hybrid propulsion system that boosts maximum speed to up to 24 knots, or 45 kilometers per hour. It also applies latest hull design using high tensile steel.

The high-performance vessel will be capable of cruising for 40 days without material supply and carrying out search and rescue operations in deep-sea waters.

The latest order boasts HJ Shipbuilding & Construction’s competitiveness in patrol ship sector. The shipyard has been engaged in various operations including navy vessel production and maintenance, performance improvement, and battleship equipment production.

The deal comes after the shipyard signed a 164.1 billion won contract in December to provide Navy’s joint amphibious logistics program. It also won an order in November last year to build four new patrol ships and to upgrade a transport ship ROKS Dokdo.
