Taper Labs, an operator of online collaboration tool Tape, plans to focus this year on informing more users of efficient working experienced by Tape’s early users.

Founded in the U.S. Bay Area in 2022, the young startup is creating a collaboration method that can dramatically increase work efficiency of remote teams with a completely new perspective on the future of work.

Jay Song, founder of Taper Labs, worked as a venture capitalist at Samsung Venture Investment’s Seoul office. As online meetings increased during the pandemic, he decided to start a business based on the idea that a video-based asynchronous communication is needed for more productive and efficient collaboration.

The ultimate mission of Taper Labs is to create “a world where anyone can work where they want, when they want.” Song said he wants to one day create a company like Adobe with a variety of software.

The initial version of Tape was released in May 2022. The company continuously received feedback from early users and steadily improved the product, and now it has become a solution used by hundreds of remote teams every day.

Tape allows users to easily record computer screen and webcam video and share URLs with just a few clicks within the browser. For example, a user who receives a video message about a design result recorded on Tape can send and receive feedback by annotating directly on the video.

Thanks to these advantages, early users of Tape are switching from a collaboration method that relies on a real-time meeting to an asynchronous collaboration method using Tape.

Taper Labs plans to focus on the U.S. market for the time being and will attract investment from the market to promote Tape to more users in a timely manner.

John S. Kim, co-Founder and chief executive officer of Sendbird, who is considered one of the most successful Korean SaaS startups, recently joined Taper Labs as an early investor and advisor.

Sendbird is the world’s No. 1 conversation platform for mobile apps with over 300 million users every month.
