Flood of new games due to hit S. Korea in 2023

South Korea is expected to be a fierce battlefield for video games as local major game publishers and global gaming giants are readying to launch new titles in the country in the first half of this year.

Kakao Games Corp. will release Eversoul, a collective-style role-playing game (RPG) with a fantasy worldview, featuring romance and combat, on Thursday.

On Jan. 12, Nexon Korea Corp. will launch KartRider: Drift, a sequel to its popular racing game series KartRider. The new game is developed for cross-platform play with upgraded graphics, the company explained. The game publisher will discontinue servicing the old KartRider games to attract more users to the new game.

NCsoft Corp. is due to release a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), titled Project TL. Also known as Throne and Liberty, it originated from the Lineage series - the game developer‘s best-seller that started in 1998.

Foreign gaming giants are also scheduled to launch new games in Korea early this year.

Electronic Arts Inc., a California-based American video game firm, will roll out a remake version of Dead Space in Korea on Jan. 28.

Xbox Game Studios, a game developer under Microsoft Corp. plans to launch Minecraft Legends, a spin-off from the immensely popular Minecraft franchise, in the first half of the year.

Blizzard Entertainment Inc. will release Diablo IV in June. It is the fourth main installment in the Diablo action role-playing game series.
