BBQ raises starting salary for new recruits by 33.5%

Genesis BBQ Co., South Korea’s third largest fried chicken restaurant franchise, has drastically raised the starting salary for new recruits under the company’s renewed focus on talent management.

The company hiked the annual starting salary of new employees with university diplomas by 33.5 percent from 34 million won ($26,650) to 45.4 million won based on jobs for field operations and sales management. This is the highest level in the Korean restaurant franchise industry.

“We will foster talent with the best treatment in the industry and open a new era of talent management to innovate into the world‘s largest and best food service company,” Genesis BBQ Chairman Yoon Hong-geun told reporters on Wednesday.

“To overcome economic crises, such as global inflation and interest rate hikes, we must move forward through bolder and newer management innovation,” Yoon said, adding that he determined the pay raise because securing excellent human resources with potential is more important than anything else.

He also vowed to seek an organizational culture focused on strengthening individual capabilities and achieving performance, while providing reasonable compensation to talented people.

During his New Year’s address delivered on Jan. 1, Yoon expressed his aspirations to transform BBQ into a comprehensive intellectual property (IP) restaurant culture company through innovation.
