Doosan Corporation broke ground for a flexible copper-clad laminate (FCCL) production plant at its complex in Gimje, North Jeolla, the company said Thursday.
The new plant, which is being built on a 13,000-square-meter (3.2 acre) site, will be complete by the latter half of 2024.
Doosan invested 60 billion won ($47.3 million) in the project.
FCCL is a core component of a flexible printed circuit board, which is used in electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets. It can be also used to produce patterned flat cable, an alternative to automotive cable harnesses used in electric vehicles.
“The latest production expansion is a pre-emptive measure to meet demand in the fast-changing market,” said a Doosan spokesperson.
“High-end FCCL business has a high entry barrier, but we will quickly stabilize the business with our know-how and experiences accumulated while running copper-clad laminate businesses so far.”
