Hyundai Motor Group’s electric vehicles have earned the highest ratings at global crash test labs, highlighting the automaker as the industry leader in safety.

According to sources on Sunday, Hyundai Motor Co.’s Ioniq 5, Kia Corp.’s EV6 and the Genesis GV60 all obtained the Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) rating in a crash test from the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). In the test well known for its difficulty, the Genesis G80, a derivative electrification model, also met all safety criteria for a TSP+ rating.

To obtain the highest grade from the IIHS, the highest score must be earned in all six evaluation categories, including driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front and roof strength. In this year’s IIHS evaluation, Hyundai Motor Group’s 15 models, including internal combustion engine vehicles, such as the Tucson sport-utility vehicle and the K5 sedan, were named on the TSP+ list.

In Europe, Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated EVs are recognized for their highest safety. Last month, the Ioniq 6 received the top five-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP), a Belgium-based European car safety performance assessment program, following the same recognition for the Ioniq 5 last year, and for the EV6 and the GV60 in May and September this year.

Hyundai Motor’s Ioniq 5 also received the top five-star safety rating in a crash test from the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the U.S. Last year, Ioniq 5 and the EV6 were awarded a top safety rating in the Korea New Car Assessment Program (KNCAP) unveiled by the transport ministry.

The top safety evaluations are a testament to the competitiveness of Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP, a platform dedicated to EVs. E-GMP considers safety as a top priority from the design stage along with structures optimized for EVs such as battery, motor, body and chassis. The ultra-high-strength steel frame in the car structure protects occupants from accidents.
