Doosan Enerbility to reduce emissions at thermal power plants in Vietnam

Doosan Enerbility on Friday said that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Vietnam’s state-run Institute of Energy and Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI).

Doosan Enerbility will implement ammonia-mixed fuel combustion at thermal power plants in Vietnam, in collaboration with research institutes from the Southeast Asian country and Korea.

Doosan Enerbility on Friday said that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Vietnam’s state-run Institute of Energy and Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI). The goal is to reduce carbon emissions at Vietnamese thermal power plants by co-burning ammonia with traditional fuels.

A consultative group will be formed for the joint project.

Doosan Enerbility will develop ammonia-mixed fuel combustion technology. The Institute of Energy will conduct a feasibility study for the project, while KETI will work on improving and modernizing power plants.

“Doosan Enerbility has been supplying equipment to a number of Vietnamese power plants through Doosan Vina,” said Park Hong-wook, head of the power service business at Doosan Enerbility.

“With the signing of the deal, the three organizations will do our best to contribute to Vietnam’s transition toward clean energy.”

The signing ceremony, held on Thursday in Hanoi, was arranged by the Korea-Vietnam joint committee on industrial cooperation. The event was attended by Nguyen Hong Dien, Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade, and Minister Lee Chang-yang of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Lee visited Vietnam on Thursday, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the trade relationship between the two countries.

On Dec. 5, the Korean and Vietnamese governments signed a comprehensive agreement on joint energy projects, which will involve offshore wind farms and ammonia-mixed fuel.
