Netflix announced Wednesday that it will release director Yeon Sang-ho’s “JUNG_E” on Jan. 20. The sci-fi film is written by Yeon and features late actor Kang Soo-yeon.
“JUNG_E” is set in a post-apocalyptic 22nd century. Humans have created a shelter in outer space as they can no longer live on Earth due to climate change. Then a civil war breaks out. To end the war, researchers at an AI lab attempt to clone the brain of a legendary combat warrior named Jung_E.
Kang is featured in the film as the head of the AI research lab. Kang was expected to make her first return to the silver screen in nine years in the film but passed away in May after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest.
Yeon is the director behind “Train to Busan” (2016) and “Hellbound” (2021). Actor Kim Hyun-joo plays Jung_E.
