Filipino fishermen struggle amid tensions in the disputed South China sea

China and the Philippines are engaged in a territorial dispute over the sovereignty of several islands and atolls in the South China Sea. Filipino fishermen have mixed feelings on the joint US-Philippines maritime patrol in the disputed South China Sea. According to a group of fishermen, intimidation and harassment from Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) may escalate again once the US is involved in the patrolling, while other fishermen agree to a US presence in the Bajo de Masinloc (Scarborough Shoal), a fishing haven shoal within the Philippine maritime territory that China occupied a decade ago.
