LG Uplus Corp.’s kids content platform “The Kids World” holds 61 million cumulative users in five years since its launch. South Korea’s third-largest telecom firm made the platform into a subscription-based application in November, pledging to expand its foothold in the kid education market.

“As a parent-tech app, we hope to provide top-quality educational content for kids in various areas, such as book reading and English learning,” said Kim Dae-ho, chief product officer for the Kids World, and Shin Jeong-ho, chief technology officer, in the interview with Maeil Business Newspaper. Previously, they both created popular app services in domestic unicorn start-ups, such as the food delivery platform Baedal Minjok. They joined LG Uplus for the kids’ app as they saw growth potential in the kid education market.

After its debut on Uplus TV in 2017, the Kids World has 61 million users. The firm transformed the service into a subscription-based app in November. Through the application, parents pay 25,000 won ($19.06) per month and access diverse contents, including more than 5,000 books and animation content for English learning. “The best part of our service is that we provide diverse content customized for each kid’s inclination and growth stage,” said CTO Shin.

The Kids World plans to advance into business-to-business commerce down the road by developing software programs for kindergartens. “We hope to create new solutions customized for kids and parents,” said CPO Kim.
