South Korean auto giant Hyundai Motor Group is studying to apply a self-developed “windless heater” system to its large-size premium sedan Genesis G90 in what would be the latest effort to improve driving conditions.

According to multiple industry sources on Thursday, Hyundai Motor Co. is mulling an option to apply its latest windless heating system developed by Hyundai Motor Group to the fourth-generation Genesis G20 facelift model.

The windless heating technology makes warm wind circulate inside the vehicle via micro punch holes on the interior surface of the vehicle, not through the existing vent. This will enable the driver to avoid wind blowing directly to the direction to the driver and passengers from the vent.

This is one of many series of technologies that Hyundai Motor Group has been developing to improve driving experiences. Its parts making subsidiary Hyundai Mobis Co. recently joined hands with software firm Luxoft in October to develop a next-generation vehicle infotainment system that includes a heating ventilation and cooling system with windless mode.

Hyundai Motor Group in 2020 had also presented a “quality air” technology that keeps inside air fresh. The air controlling system comes in three technologies – after-blow, multi-air mode, and indoor fine dust indicator display. The multi-air mode allows newly added multi-air slots in the driver and passenger seats to spread air in addition to the usual air vents. The technology has been applied to the fourth-generation new Tuscon sport utility vehicle.

Hyundai Motor, in the meantime, is also developing various automotive heating technology for future electric vehicles and self-driving cars, such as ondol, or underfloor heating system found only in Korea.

Hyundai Motor Group in May unveiled a “Mobility Ondol Concept” that applies the traditional heating system principle to vehicles and applied for a patent.
