Hyundai Doosan Infracore wins $140 mn deal to provide tank engines

Hyundai Doosan Infracore Co. won a $140 million order for its proprietary engines that will be installed on tanks bound for Poland.

The company announced Tuesday it signed a 180 billion won ($140 million) contract to supply its proprietary tanks engines to Hyundai Rotem Co. The engines will be delivered to Hyundai Rotem for three years from June 2023 to be equipped on K2 Main Battle Tanks. Hyundai Rotem clinched a deal to export 180 units to Poland’s state defense procurement agency in July.

Hyundai Doosan Infracore developed its proprietary 27-liter twin turbo diesel engine, which is capable of producing 1,500 horsepower and allowing a 56-ton tank to drive at a maximum speed of 70 kilometers per hour.

With the latest contract, Hyundai Doosan Infracore plans to focus on expanding its defense engine market dominance in Europe and the Middle East.

Hyundai Doosan Infracore shares rose 4.61 percent to trade at 8,630 won as of 2:05 p.m. in Seoul trading Tuesday.
