LG AI Research pins high hope on hyperscale AI technology

South Korean conglomerate LG Group’s artificial intelligence research hub LG AI Research vowed to further advance its hyperscale artificial intelligent (AI) technology to broaden its application to more diverse areas, the research center unveiled at an online event held on Thursday to celebrate the second anniversary of its launch.

This is part of LG Group’s earlier plan to invest 3.6 trillion won ($2.7 billion) in research and development for AI and data sectors to secure differentiated AI technologies.

At the events, LG AI Research presented its achievements in AI technology development. It has applied its AI technology to diverse industrial fields in cooperation with LG affiliated units and other partners at home and abroad.

LG Electronics uses AI technology to predict product demand in each country and region on a weekly basis. LG Innotek has applied the AI solution to its camera lens and sensor aligning process for better efficiency and productivity.

LG AI Research’s AI models are also used in developing customized cancer vaccines, lithium-sulfur battery electrolyte and high-efficient light-emitting materials for next-gen OLED.

It recently enhanced its flagship hyperscale AI model EXAONE to enable it to learn not only texts on papers and patents but also formulas and tables to build up database with them.

“We aim to develop ‘expert AI’ that can cooperate with human beings to address the challenges facing the world and create new customer values,” said Bae Kyung-hoon, chief of LG AI Research.
