South Korea’s electronics giant LG Electronics Inc. is readying to transform its TV manufacturing plant with a 50-year history in Gumi, Gyeongsang Province into a main center for its future growth engines especially robotics technologies.

LG Electronics has added robot manufacturing facilities in the A1 line of its Gumi plant to produce its CLOi brand robots since early this month.

CLOi brand robots have been churned out from its subsidiary Robostar’s plants in Suwon, Korea and China. With the latest upgrade, six robots in its lineup will be produced directly from the Gumi plant, and only the UV-C Bot for disinfection will be manufactured at the Chinese plant.

LG Electronics’ Gumi plant had served as its major TV production factory for 47 years since 1975. But the company transferred some of its TV lines to Indonesia in the second half of 2020 and divested parts of the factories to LG Innotek to improve competitiveness.

After reducing TV production, the Korean tech giant has added lines where its future growth engines like robotics are tested and produced. It also churns out rollable OLED TVs and StanbyME wireless display screen from the Gumi factory.
