Question time at Spanish Parliament

The law, passed by the majority of the Parliament, adds the need for consent in sexual intercourse and removes the distinction between sexual assault and sexual abuse which means some penalties are higher but also the minimum have been reduced. This last point has allowed some sexual offenders to leave prison as they have seen their sentences cut down due to the new law. This has led to a debate within politics and judiciary in whether the new law is allowing sexual offenders to cut down their penalties or if the judges are misinterpreting the new law. EPA/J.C.
