Great-granddaughter of independence fighter Kim Gu weds heir to Thai magnate

The great-granddaughter of South Korea’s iconic independence activist Kim Gu tied the knot with the eldest son of Soopakij Chearavanont, chairman of Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group, the largest business group in Thailand. The wedding was held at a hotel in Bangkok on Saturday. CP Group is engaged in food, mobile service, and convenience store businesses. Its revenue last year is estimated at $65 billion. The bride and groom were long-time friends while studying in the United States. The groom is chief executive of large discount store Makro of CP Group and the bride has been working for an IT firm in Singapore. Marisa, wife of CP Group Chairman, is also of Korean descent.
