SK energy, a major refiner under SK Group, will join hands with Doosan Fuel Cell, the clean energy unit of Doosan Group, to build a comprehensive energy station that will enable electric and fuel cell vehicles to charge at the same time.

On Tuesday, the two firms signed a deal to demonstrate an on-site hybrid energy station that can produce green energy and use it directly for charging both electric and hydrogen fuel-cell cars. Following the deal, they are likely to put into action their agreement made in August for cooperation to expand hydrogen services.

Based on the deal, Doosan Fuel Cell will provide its “tri-gen” fuel cell system that generates electricity, hydrogen, and heat together, while SK energy will supply a facility to produce high-purity hydrogen. The two sides plan to complete the demonstration of a facility to produce high-purity hydrogen by the first half of next year.

They will build a complex energy station that can charge electric and hydrogen vehicles simultaneously. Their hydrogen charging station is expected to produce a ton of hydrogen per day, which can charge 200 hydrogen automobiles or 30 hydrogen trucks. The two firms will discuss their cooperation in phases to expand hydrogen charging services by 2026.

SK energy shares rose 1.49 percent to 170,000 won ($125.99) in the morning session of Wednesday. Doosan Pure Cell added 0.14 percent to 35,500 won.
