Samsung, LG, net up record CES 2023 innovation awards

South Korean tech giants Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc. swept up record number of innovation awards from U.S. Consumer Technology Association (CTA) ahead of CES 2023, the world’s largest tech exhibition kicking off in January.

CTA on Wednesday announced products and technologies in 28 categories for CES 2023 Innovation Award honors. CES Innovation Award from CTA that organizes CES 2023 is given to innovative technology and products that will lead the world.

Samsung Electronics won a record 46 innovation awards including three Best of Innovation Honorees from CTA. Samsung Electronics had also received 46 awards in 2020.

Samsung Electronics was honored in a wide range of categories - 18 in visual display, 11 in mobile, 10 in home appliances, and 7 in chips. The company was recognized as Best of Innovation Honoree two in visual display and one in chip category.

Its 2023 TV product received the Best Innovation Honoree for a 12th straight year and gaming monitor for a second straight year.

In home appliance category, Samsung Electronics received a record 10 innovation awards for various products and technologies including its bespoke home appliance and SmartThings devices.

Samsung Electronics’ Bespoke AI Laundry products were recognized for its innovative design and integrated AI technologies, the company said. CTA highly evaluated the company’s AI customized washing machine and dryer features that offer optimized course to users. SmartThings Energy that helps reduce home energy consumption was also honored.

In mobile sector, most of its latest mobile lineup Galaxy Z Fold, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Watch 5, Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, and Samsung Wallet scooped up top prizes.

In cybersecurity and personal privacy category, Samsung S3B512C Security Chip received Best of Innovation Honoree that integrates fingerprint sensor, security element with a processor on a single chip. Samsung 990 PRO with Heatsink SSD 2TB, Samsung Automotive NVMe BGA SSD 1TB, and Samsung ISOCELL HP3 CMOS Image Sensor with 200 megapixel 0.56 ㎛ image sensor were called as innovation award honorees.

LG Electronics also earned a record 28 CES 2023 Innovation Awards including three Best of Innovation Awards.

LG OLED TV received 12 innovation awards including two Best of Innovation Awards, making it the 11th year after 2013 launch. LG OLED Flex won the best award in gaming category and an innovation award in visual display category.

The 88-inch LG SIGNATURE OLED 8K TV was recognized in three categories, including visual display and high-performance home, audio, and video categories, while the world’s largest 97-inch OLED TV was recognized in two categories.

Winners in LG Electronics’ home appliances category included LG PuriCare Aero Furniture and premium LG CordZero All-in-One Tower with Steam Mop.

Other winning products are LG Trom WashTower Compact, LG UltraGear OLED gaming monitor, and LG XBOOM 360 bluetooth speaker system.

The products will be displayed at CES 2023 in Las Vegas, the United States, from January 5 to 8.
