SK signet, the electric vehicle charging solutions unit of South Korea’s SK Group, will produce super-fast 350kW electric vehicle chargers and power cabinets at its new manufacturing facility in Texas to fast respond to surging demand in the North American market.

The plant will be operating at full capacity by July 2023, SK signet said in its press release on Wednesday. The 350kW chargers will likely be the first super-fast charging unit produced and assembled in the U.S.

SK signet announced its plan to build the first ultra-fast charger manufacturing facility with an annual output of 10,000 units in Plano, Texas with $5 million investment last month. It is planning to speed up related work such as hiring for the operation schedule in close cooperation with Plano city.

The new plant will align with the goals of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program, which will boost domestic manufacturing and support growth of EV charging infra.

SK signet’s 350kW chargers produced in the U.S. will be supplied to various charging station operators including its major clients and auto brands - Electrify America and EVgo.

“We are very excited to welcome SK signet manufacturing Texas to Plano. The company’s innovative technology is a perfect fit for our business community. We are proud to continue attracting world-class companies to our city that impact the market place,” said Plano city mayor John Muns.

SK signet CEO Shin Jung-ho said “Our new Texas facility will provide top-tier fast charging solutions that are adaptable to a wide range of vehicle types, helping EVs become a reality for more Americans.”

SK signet shares gained 6.28 percent to trade at 45,700 won in the Wednesday afternoon trade.
