Korean-Canadian actor Sandra Oh is reported to have joined director Park Chan-wook’s upcoming HBO Max original series “The Sympathizer.”
According to American entertainment outlet Variety, Sandra Oh and Vietnamese-American actors Kieu Chinh and Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen have joined “The Sympathizer,” which is adapted from Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same title, produced by and co-starring Robert Downey Jr.
The series is an espionage thriller about an identity crisis of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and, afterwards, his exile in the United States.
Oh portrays Ms. Sofia Mori, a liberated feminist struggling with her own Asian-American identity. The actor recently wrapped up the fourth and final season of Emmy-winning series “Killing Eve” (2018-22).
Park Chan-wook directs, writes, and serves as both executive producer and co-showrunner with Don McKellar.
