Samsung, Hyundai stay in top 100 global brand club

The world’s No. 1 memory chip maker Samsung Electronics and South Korea’s biggest auto maker Hyundai Motor are named as one of the world’s top 100 brands this year after their brand value have steadily increased over years.

According to the Best Global Brands 2022 by global brand consulting firm Interbrand, Samsung Electronics ranked fifth with a bland value of $87.7 billion, up 17 percent from the previous year, retaining No. 5 position for three straight years. The gap between its brand value and that of No.6 Toyota widened from $17.1 billion last year to $27.9 billion.

Samsung Electronics first joined the top 10 list in 2012 when its rank leaped to 9th from 17th in 2011.

Apple topped the list this year, with a brand value of $482.2 billion, followed by other global IT and platforms firms such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Google.

Hyundai Motor also ranked 35th with a brand value of $17.3 billion. Its ranking was the same as the previous year, while its brand value increased by 14 percent. The automaker has been in the top 40 club for eight years since 2015. It first joined the top 100 brand list in 2005, and then it jumped 49 notches over 17 years with its value up $13.8 billion.

“Hyundai is focused on delivering an outstanding customer experience grounded in design leadership, engineering excellence, and exceptional value in every vehicle they sell,” Interbrand stated.

Another Korean automaker, Kia Corp. appeared in the top 100, ranking 87th with a brand value of $6.6 billion. Global automakers, such as Toyota (6th), Mercedes-Benz (8th), BMW (13th), and Honda (26th), ranked high in the Best Global brands 2022.
