Samsung Electronics will find new areas of growth in the metaverse and robotics, said Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee at a ceremony marking the 53rd anniversary of its foundation on Tuesday. “Let’s accelerate growth momentum by creating new business opportunities in artificial intelligence, the internet of things, robotics and the metaverse, which will shift future lifestyles,” Han said.
He also stressed the importance of sustainable development. “We should contribute to creating a sustainable future society by driving innovative green technologies from a long-term perspective,” Han said.
The company aims to shift entirely to electricity generated by renewable energy by 2050 after it signed the RE100 initiative, a global campaign for sustainability.
Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong was not at the event at the company’s headquarters in Suwon as was the case last year as well.
Other executives included President Kyung Kye-hyun, although the event was downsized out of respect for the victims of the crowd crush in Itaewon on Saturday.
Before the ceremony began, participants observed a moment of silence.
Samsung Electronics has its roots in Samsung Electric Industries, which was founded on Jan. 13, 1969. When it completed a merger with Samsung Semiconductor & Telecommunications on Nov. 1, it changed the founding date to that day.
