Doosan Enerbility is teaming up with L&F, a Daegu-based cathode material supplier, to recycle battery materials.
The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at Doosan Tower in Bundang, Gyeonggi, Monday.
L&F will provide waste cathode powder generated during the manufacturing process, and Doosan Enerbility will extract lithium from the waste powder.
Lithium is one of the key materials for cathodes, used in batteries for electric vehicles (EVs), laptops and smartphones.
“As the battery market quickly expands with the EV market, lithium demand is steadily on the rise,” said Song Yong-jin, head of the strategic innovation division at Doosan Enerbility. “Through cooperation with L&F, we will establish a virtuous circle of battery recycling and actively participate in the fast-growing lithium market.”
