The 20th World Korean Business Convention, sponsored by Maeil Business Newspaper to support Korean entrepreneurs in foreign countries, will be held at Ulsan Exhibition & Convention Center for three days starting today.

Around 2,000 Korean businessmen from home and abroad, including 40 nations, are expected to participate in the first offline meeting in three years.

The 20th event will focus on the convention’s core purpose of networking. It plans to expand networking opportunities among its participants and help promising startups advance to the world stage.

“The Korean Business Convention is a venue for Korean entrepreneurs (abroad) to build networks for business opportunities,” said Kim Jeom-bae, chairman of the 20th World Business Convention.

The 20th convention has prepared various events, including corporate exhibitions. Around 130 companies will participate in the exhibitions with 10 sections, including artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and healthcare, through which they can cut deals with foreign buyers.

The convention will also hold a startup pitch competition for two days to help promising startups led by Korean nationals grow into global companies. Nine firms selected through a preliminary review will attend the competition to vie for awards and opportunities to attend next year’s convention in Orange County, California, the U.S. The Leading CEO Forum, a network for leading CEOs and young entrepreneurs, will hold its second meeting after its inaugural last year.

During a welcome dinner on Monday, the convention also awarded a plaque of merit to Chang Dae-whan, chairman of Maekyung Media Group, for the group’s contribution to the convention over the past 20 years since it helped establish the organization in 2002.

“Maekyung will continue to work with the convention to help Korean entrepreneurs through the convention,” said Chairman Chang, receiving the plaque.
