The Houthis-held Zakat Authority has spent about 10.7 million US dollar helping 10,044 grooms and brides of the poor and indigent families get married in mass wedding ceremonies in the Houthis-controlled northern Yemeni cities, including the capital Sana'a where the mass wedding ceremony was held for 3,000 couples. The mass ceremonies were organized in order to avoid excessive expenses and to make it easier for the youths to start families due to high dowries and the deteriorating economic conditions in the war-ravaged Arab country.
