CJ AI Center and KAIST signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for joint research on brain-inspired artificial intelligence (AI) technology, Monday.
Brain-inspired AI technology aims to create software that operates in a similar process to how a human brain works.
The CJ research center and KAIST’s department of brain cognitive science will conduct joint research on the brain-machine interface and machine learning-powered robot arm. The two parties also plan to establish a research center on brain-inspired AI together.
The goal is to adopt the technology in building brainwave-controlled robot arms for people with disabilities, logistics robots, marketing analysis software and others.
“In order to create a robot arm for those who lost their arms due to accidents, a technology to understand the user’s intention through brainwave is crucial,” said Jeong Jae-seung, professor and head of KAIST’s brain cognitive science department.
“We expect that the researchers from the CJ AI Center and KAIST’s brain cognitive science department will together achieve great results in the next few years.”
