Samsung Display announced Thursday that it has signed on to RE100, a global campaign to replace all electricity generated by fossil fuels with renewable energy by 2050, following the same move by its parent company Samsung Electronics.
The panel maker, 84.8 percent owned by Samsung Electronics, will count on a broad range of techniques such as recycling materials in manufacturing organic light-emitting diode(OLED) panels with less electricity.
“Samsung Display plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 by reducing both direct (Scope 1) and indirect (Scope 2) carbon emissions,” it said in a statement.
“To achieve that objective, the company will invest in infrastructures that minimize carbon directly emitted during its display production process by reducing power, processing gas and fuel use; expanding process gas reduction facilities; and developing low GWP (Global Warming Index) alternative gas,” the company said.
