Foreign investors posted net-selling in Korea’s stock market last month for the first time after their net-buying in the previous three months.

According to the Financial Supervisory Service’s data released on Wednesday, foreigners net-sold domestic stocks worth 2.3 trillion won ($1.6 billion) last month, with 1.8 trillion won on the Kospi and 4,096 billion won on the Kosdaq. They continued on the selling side for the first six months of the year and turned to bag risky assets starting from July.

Meanwhile, in the domestic debt market, foreign investors exhibited a net outflow of 980 billion won. They bought domestic bonds worth 6.7 trillion won, while retrieving 7.7 trillion won upon maturity during the month. They collected 6.1 trillion won from bonds with less than one year of maturity while retrieving 3.7 trillion won from those with a maturity of one year to five years.

As of the end of September, foreigners’ holdings in domestic securities amounted to 781.4 trillion won, with 550.4 trillion won in stocks and 231 trillion won in bonds.
