The memory of the miracle of the Andes remains vivid in the small town of San Fernando, 130 kilometers south of Santiago de Chile. In 1972 it became the epicenter of the rescue of plane crash survivors. The Miracle of the Andes left 29 dead and 16 survivors after an Uruguayan Air Force plane crashed in the Andes mountain range.
