Schneider Electric, the global leader in the digital transformation of energy management and industrial automation, was awarded an honorary certificate by the International Carbon Handprint Awards for its green, pure air medium voltage (MV) AirSeT technology.

Carbon handprint refers to a product’s positive climate impact, as exemplified by RM AirSeT ring main unit (RMU), with its innovative, sustainable design that uses pure air instead of SF6—a potent greenhouse gas common to electrical grid MV equipment for decades.

This new, sustainable grid technology could not come at a better time. As renewables like wind and solar are added to the grid, they must be accompanied by switchgear like AirSeT at the points of connection. SF6, free AirSeT MV ensures that electricity produced through low-carbon generation can stay green as it travels through decarbonized switchgear. A single AirSeT installation can avoid up to 3 kg of SF6 greenhouse gas, thus eliminating its potential footprint of 75,000kg of CO2.

"Schneider Electric has a strong sense of responsibility to develop new climate-positive technologies,” says an official at Schneider Electric.

Schneider Electric received the honorary certificate for its new technology at Climate Week NYC 2022, marking its 14th year as the biggest global climate event of its kind. The International Carbon Handprint Awards, a collaboration between the Vancouver Economic Commission and Climate Leadership Coalition (CLC), highlight solutions that create a major positive climate impact and help economies reduce emissions or increase carbon sinks significantly. AirSeT won its honorary certificate in the High Potential Carbon Handprint Innovation category.
