Rice scarcity hits Liberia

According to reports, local dealers are hoarding the commodity to create artificial scarcity, and they then sell it at black market prices to make more profit. Rice is the country's staple food, and it's described as a political commodity. According to reports, the government provides subsidies to rice importers, in an effort to keep the price of the commodity low, due to ongoing constraints of the Russian and Ukrain war, which is responsible for the slow supply of the commodity in the country.
