The company said on Friday that it signed a construction deal as a contractor with Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco), the developer of the project. Doosan Enerbility will oversee the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) process of the project, encompassing all stages from design through construction and test operations.

A cogeneration plant, also known as a combined heat and power system, utilizes the waste heat generated from electricity production for heating.

The cogeneration plant will be built in Jafurah, which is located about 400 kilometers (248.5 miles) east of Riyadh.

The construction is scheduled to be completed by the latter half of 2025. The 320-megawatt plant will produce electricity as well as 314 tons of steam per hour. Generated power and heat will be supplied to the Jafurah gas field nearby.

Doosan Enerbility landed deals worth over 2.3 trillion won in Saudi Arabia this year: a 1-trillion-won casting and forging plant project, and an 840-billion-won sea water desalination plant project in August.

“It is meaningful that we could participate in an overseas plant construction project as Team Korea once again with Kepco, after the Guam Ukudu combined cycle power plant project in 2020,” said Park In-won, head of Doosan Enerbility’s EPC business.

“We will strengthen our market penetration strategy in the Middle East, as combined cycle power plant projects with generation capacities of over 30 gigawatts in total are expected to be signed in the region through the next five years, especially in Saudi Arabia.”
