Hyundai Mobis and 9 other Korean Inc. never missed a quarterly profit for 22 years

Retailer Shinsegae and Hyundai Mobis under Hyundai Motor Group made a select 10 list among listed Korean companies who have never been in the red from operation for the past 22 years.

According to Seoul-based business tracker CEO Score, 10 companies stayed in the black for 90 consecutive quarters, or uninterruptedly from 2000 when quarterly financial statements became mandatory for public trading companies in Korea.

Hyundai Mobis, CJ Group’s major entertainment firm CJ ENM, mobile carrier SK Telecom, metals giant Korea Zinc, and tobacco company KT&G never missed a profit over the last 22 years.

Over the last decade, 67 companies including Samsung Electronics recorded a profit for 40 consecutive quarters. Naver had the largest operating profit, with an average operating profit margin of 39.8 percent over 82 quarters.

Cosmetics house LG Household & Healthcare, Hyundai Department Store, and building materials company LX Hausys were among the 24 companies that delivered profit for every quarter since their establishment.

SsangYong Motor and Samsung Heavy Industries were in the red for at least four years - SsangYong since the first quarter of 2018 and Samsung Heavy Industries since the fourth quarter of 2017.
