SK Chairman to visit U.S. and Japan to pitch for Busan's bid for World Expo 2030

Chey Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group, is visiting Japan and the United States to win support for Korea's bid to host the World Expo 2030 in Busan, the country’s second biggest city and biggest port city.

Chey, who also serves as the chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), departed for Japan on Thursday to meet with Prime Ministry Fumio Kishida.

The company declined to confirm on Chey’s meeting details like the name of his counterparts. but said he will meet political and business figures in Japan to see their preparations for the Expo 2025 in Osaka and ask for their support for Busan's bid.

After finishing his schedule in Japan, Chey will fly to the U.S. on Sept. 19 to attend SK Night, an event to boost SK's business competitiveness and promote the "Korea sales" pitch. Chey is expected to pitch for Busan's bid to gain support from prominent U.S. political figures, lobbyists, and SK business partners, attending SK Night.
