President Yoon calls for legal action against foul play in solar power projects

President Yoon Suk-yeol has called for legal procedures to be taken for the misappropriation of 261.6 billion won ($187.5 million) in state subsidies after corruption findings in investigative reports on the previous government¡¯s solar power projects.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday as he arrived for work, Yoon condemned the findings discovered by the Office of Government Policy Coordination under the prime minister. ¡°It is deplorable that taxpayers¡¯ precious money, which should be spent on supporting the welfare of underprivileged people, was used for corrupt acts by cartels with vested interests, he said. Commenting on the news report, he stressed that any violations must be handled through the judicial system.

Previously, the policy coordination office announced that it identified 2,267 cases of irregularities that misappropriated 261.6 billion won through its sample investigation of 12 out of 226 local governments in their use of the Electricity Industry Infrastructure Fund.
