Volvo, Polestar and 3 other foreign brands to recall about 70,000 cars in Korea

Volvo, Polestar, and three other import car brands are ordered to recall a combined 70,978 vehicles from 33 models in South Korea for safety issues.

The five importers are Volvo Cars Korea, Polestar Automotive Korea, Mercedes-Benz Korea, Jaguar Land Rover Korea and Honda Korea, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on Thursday.

Volvo Cars Korea will recall a total of 58,165 units from nine models including the XC60 after reports of error in dashboard software that shows speeds slower than the actual speed.

Polestar Automotive Korea found the same problems in 2,410 vehicles from two models including Polestar 2 Long range Single motor.

The ministry is planning to impose a penalty surcharge on the two importers after their voluntary recalls, considering the correction rate.

Mercedes-Benz Korea discovered faulty transmission connector in 5,599 units of six models including Mercedes-AMG GT 43 4MATIC+ that could lead to fire on roads if rain water gets into the connector.

Fuel hoses of 3,974 units of its 10 models including A 220 Hatch were reported to increase the risk of fuel leaks, and 126 units of EQB 300 4MATIC were found to have different specifications (length and wheelbase) from previously reported information.

Jaguar Land Rover Korea will recall 65 units of two models including F-PACE D200 found to have problems in turn signal lights.

Honda Korea has to fix the error in the engine control unit software in 639 units of three motorcycle models including the GL1800 that increases the risk of car stalling while driving.

Owners will be notified of the recall by mail or SMS. Those who already paid for any repairs or parts related can apply for compensation.
