China’s top legislator Li Zhanshu will make a visit to LG Science Park during his visit to Seoul this week for a planned meeting with National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo.

Li, accompanied by a delegation of 66 Chinese ranking officials, is scheduled to start a three-day visit to South Korea on Thursday with a tour of LG Group’s R&D hub Friday morning and a meeting with President Yoon Suk-yeol in the afternoon. It is part of a four-nation trip by Li, Chairman of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, who is currently ranked No. 3 in the Chinese Communist Party.

It will mark the first time for China’s top legislator to visit South Korea since a 2015 visit by Zhang Dejiang.

Guided by LG Vice Chairman Kwon Bong-seok, Lee and his delegation are expected to tour the LG Innovation Gallery at LG Science Park, where LG Group’s future technologies and flagship business products are displayed. The location was once visited by U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen during her official visit to Seoul in July.

LG Group has been gradually reducing its presence in China since 2016. LG Electronics relocated its mainstay home appliance factory to Vietnam, while LG Chem, LG Energy Solution, and LG Display have maintained their production facilities in China. LG Energy Solution, which is operating a battery plant in Nanjing, is the only LG Group company to expand its business in China.
