South Korea’s mid-tier electric motorbike maker Zio Motors will start rolling out e-bikes capable of running 180 kilometers after a single charge from an industrial complex in Hanoi to target Vietnam, the world’s fourth-largest motorbike market.

Zio Motors has been renovating a production facility in the Dai Dong industrial complex in Bac Ninh Province. It plans to manufacture 1,000 units monthly starting in mid-October to sell a total of 3,000 units before the end of the year.

Vietnam’s e-motorbike market is expanding, backed by the government’s eco-friendly policy regulating emissions testing and keeping motorbikes off roads when failing to meet the related standards. E-motorbikes will likely replace gasoline-powered two wheels in 2025. Vinfast, under Vingroup, the largest conglomerate in Vietnam, commands the e-motorbike market, followed by Hong Kong-based Yadi.

Vinfast electric motorcycles priced at 2.5 million won per unit can travel 100km per full charge, while Yadi, at a price range of 2 million won, can run 60km with a single fill-up.

Zio Motors’ bike will sport a travel distance of 180km per change at a price range of 1.5 million won. The company hopes to raise its market share to 20 percent with annual capacity of 400,000 units by 2025.
