South Korea’s fourth largest business group LG and U.S. top art and design school Parsons School of Design have teamed up to develop artificial intelligence (AI) technology that can help humans expand creativity in art and designing by facilitating ideation.

According to LG on Monday, LG AI Research and Parsons opened ‘LG AI Research & TNS Parsons Collaboration’ at Parson’s campus in New York, the United States under an agreement signed by the two to partner to develop creative, advanced AI technology. LG AI Research is LG Group’s AI research hub.

At the new joint research center, experts from technology and creative fields like art and designing will jointly carry out academic research projects to enhance LG’s Exaone Atelier, an ideation management software service powered by Exaone, super-giant multimodal AI developed by the Korean technology giant.

Exaone Atelier is designed to help the ideation process in creative activities by visualizing data input in the form of text, image, video, or audio. Through the partnership with Parsons, LG hopes to use the joint-research outcome to advance its ideation AI platform for artists and designers.

Exaone engine can convert text to a new image utilizing data of 350 million high -resolution images it has learned and can create 256 high-resolution images in seven minutes with one sentence. It has also learned over 600 billion corpora and can convert texts freely.

“Through a deeper level of collaboration with Parsons, LG AI Research would like to develop an expert AI, which could maximize human creativity and productivity by understanding not only thoughts and ideas but also knowhow and expertise from a variety of export humans,” Bae Kyung-hoon, chief of LG AI Research, said in a statement.

Bae, Yvonne Watson, interim executive dean of Parsons School of Design, and others attended the signing event held in New York on Monday.
