Princess Diana was proclaimed dead at Pitie-Salpetriere Hospital on early 31 August 1997 following a fatal car crash in Pont de l'Alma tunnel. The driver of the car carrying the widely popular Lady Di and her partner Dodi al-Fayed from Ritz Hotel lost control in the tunnel and crashed while it was being chased by photographers on motorcyles.
