Lee Bo-mee, Ryu So-yeon take home team trophy at Simone Asia Pacific Cup

Lee Bo-mee and Ryu So-yeon won the team trophy at the inaugural Simone Asia Pacific Cup in Indonesia on Saturday.

With the LPGA Tour breaking for a week, the Asia Golf Leaders Forum (AGLF) hosted the new tournament at Pondok Indah golf course in Jakarta, Indonesia, and was played for three days from Thursday to Sunday.

Twenty teams from 16 different Asia Pacific countries came to compete for the inaugural title, including four Korean golfers: Lee, Ryu, Kim Hyo-joo and Hwang Yoo-min.

Two trophies were awarded on Saturday, with Ryu and Lee taking the team trophy after carding the lowest total score of two golfers.

The Philippines' Princess Mary Superal took the individual trophy with an overall 12-under-par, 204.

Ryu took second place with nine-under-par and Lydia Ko took third place with eight-under-par. Lee took sixth place with two-under-par while Kim Hyo-joo took eighth place with one-under-par. Hwang Yoo-min finished 12th place, carding an even par.

Ryu started out the competition on top of the leaderboard after firing a seven-under-par 65 in a bogeyless round on Thursday. Lee also was in good form from the first day one, finishing the opening round in fourth place.

"To be honest, I was quite nervous this morning because I haven't represented my country for a while," said two-time LPGA major winner Ryu on Thursday.

"I paired up with Lee Bo-mee, one of my good friends, and I had a lot of fun playing with her and this helped me to relax."

Of her seven birdies on Thursday, five were made in the front nine.

"My putting was pretty great today, and I'm always happy with a bogey-free round," Ryu said.

"At the back nine, the wind started to pick up. It was swirling and made it hard to read the wind direction. That's the reason why it was tough to create any birdie chances. But my putting was good enough to make a couple of birdies out there."

While Ryu slipped in the second round, carding five birdies but also adding two bogies and three double bogies, Ryu bounced back with a 67 on Saturday.

In the final round, Ryu and Lee together had the lowest total score, 11-under-par. The runner-up team was the Filipino pair, Pauline Del Rosario and Superal. Kim and Hwang finished sixth.

The total purse is $750,000, with the individual winner taking $500,000 and the winning team taking $250,000 to split.

The event is part of the new Ladies Asian Tour (LAT) Series, which kicked off in June with the DB Group 36th Korea Women's Open.

The Ladies Asian Tour Series is set to stage seven tournaments across the Asia Pacific region in 2023 and aims to expand to 10 events in 2024.

The LPGA Tour continues with its season on Thursday at the CP Women's Open in Ottawa, Canada.
