Heart of Dom Pedro IV on display in Porto

epa10130241 The heart of King Pedro IV of Portugal, also known as Dom Pedro I of Brazil (1798-1834) is on display for the first time at the Noble Hall of the Irmandade da Lapa in Porto, Portugal, 20 August 2022, on the eve of its shipment to Brazil as part of the commemorations of the bicentennial of that country's independence. The return trip to Porto is scheduled for 09 September. Pedro I of Brazil was the founder and first ruler of the Empire of Brazil from 1822-1831. He also reigned over Portugal as King Dom Pedro IV in 1826. The emperor's heart was placed in the Lapa Church and his body was laid to rest in the Royal Pantheon of the House of Braganza.
