Songdo is more complete as bio hub for Korea with SK bioscience joining

SK bioscience will build a new head office and global R&PD center with a total floor area of 83,000 square meters in Songdo by 2024 to complete a bio cluster in the island off the Incheon air gateway west of Seoul.

The 266.2 billion won ($200 million) project will make the vaccine maker a neighbor to Samsung Biologics and Celltion based the district, creating synergy among Korea¡¯s three biopharma giants.

The Incheon Free Economic Zone of South Korea said Thursday SK bioscience along with YMT and Macrogen will start construction of their research center in Songdo in the first half of next year.

YMT plans to invest 48.6 billion won to start construction of a 13,200 square meter research institute in the first half of next year. Upon completion in 2024, the center will conduct research on biomaterials in addition to chemical materials for electronic parts. YMT is a Korean developer of PCB surface treatment chemical materials that are essential for mobile phones and tablets.

Macrogen aims to complete its Global Genome Campus on a site of 6,000 square meters in Songdo by 2024. Founded in 1997, Macrogen is a genome analysis company that ranks first in Korea and fifth in the world in the field of next-generation sequencing.
