Pulmuone is joining other food makers in the race in offering plant-based foods in Korea.

The company established its plant-based brand on Thursday, selling various food such as bulgogi deopbap. Instead of beef, the company uses textured vegetable protein.

Other products such as dumplings, tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) and jjajangmyeon (noodles in black bean sauce) that only use plant-based ingredients are offered.

Last year, Pulmuone signed a memorandum of understanding with Danisco Nutrition and Bioscience, a Gangnam-based food company, and Ingredion, also a Gangnam-based food maker, to develop its own recipe for textured vegetable protein to use in its products.

Pulmuone plans to offer more products, such as plant-based ham and gangjeong this year.

Although the company just started its plant-based food brand in Korea, Pulmuone USA has been operating Plantspired since 2020. The subsidiary sells plant-based steaks, supplying it to restaurants and school cafeterias in the country.
