Hyundai-Aptiv JV Motional kicks off Ioniq 5-based robotaxi in U.S.

Motional, a Hyundai-Aptiv joint venture for autonomous driving technology, officially launched the public service of Hyundai’s all-electric Ioniq 5-based driverless taxi service on the ride-hailing platform Lyft in Las Vegas on Tuesday. Backed by SAE Level 4 autonomous driving technology, the Ioniq 5 has become Lyft’s first self-driving EV. A safety driver will remain behind the steering wheel in case of emergencies. Motional and Lyft aims to launch a fully driverless service by 2023.
