Blackpink will become the first female K-pop act to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), according to YG Entertainment on Tuesday.

"The girl group is preparing for this performance which we hope will help the event shine brighter," said the agency in a statement. "The members and the crew are giving it their all to create a memorable moment for fans of the group all around the world."

The upcoming performance will also mark Blackpink's U.S. award show debut and the group's first time showcasing its new song "Pink Venom" to fans in the United States.

"Pink Venom" is a single from its highly-anticipated second full-length album "Born Pink" set to be released on Sept. 16. "Pink Venom' will be released on Aug. 19.

Other artists who will be performing at this year's VMAs are Anitta, J Balvin, Marshmello and Khalid, Panic! At The Disco, Lizzo, Jack Harlow, and Måneskin.

Blackpink is nominated for Best Metaverse Performance. The group held a series of virtual in-game concerts around the world in July with 3-D avatars of the group's four members, Jennie, Rosé, Lisa and Jisoo, in collaboration with PUBG Mobile. It also released a music video with the avatars titled "Ready for Love" on July 29.

Lisa is also a nominee for Best K-pop for her solo debut single "Lalisa" released in September last year.

In 2020, the group won the Song of the Summer category with "How You Like That" (2020) and became the first female K-pop act to win an award in the VMAs.

The 2022 VMAs is slated to be held on Aug. 28 at the Prudential Center in New Jersey.

Blackpink’s last music was its full-length album “The Album,” which was released in October 2020. The group debuted in 2016 with its first EP “Square One” and has released hit tracks including “Playing with Fire” (2016), “Forever Young” (2018), and “Lovesick Girls” (2020).
