epa10115606 A skeleton found during archaeological excavations in the 14th century settlement called the 'Pompeii of Warmia' near Barczewko village, northern Poland, 11 August 2022. This place is called the 'Pompeii of Warmia' because the ruins of the city destroyed during the invasion are preserved intact. The former town of Alt Wartenburg was located between Lake Wadag and the river Orzechowka, about five kilometres from Barczewo. It was probably inhabited by settlers from Silesia.
