Kurly has started selling its Korean food products on RedMart, Singapore’s largest e-commerce marketplace, the retailer said Thursday.
RedMart is a subsidiary of Lazada, a popular e-commerce company owned by Alibaba. Kurly will be selling 44 food products, including meal kits of kalguksoo (knife-cut noodles), mandu (Korean dumplings) and tteokboki (spicy rice cakes).
On Wednesday, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at Lazada RedMart headquarters in Singapore. The event was attended by Sophie Kim, CEO of Market Kurly, and Wee Lee, CEO of Lazada.
“I am more than thrilled to introduce Korean food to Singapore, a country that has a big interest in food and taste,” said Sophie Kim.
“With people’s interest in Korean food rising day by day, we will try our best to make sure that our products are loved by consumers in South East Asian countries.”
The retailer is planning to further expand its online business to other South-east Asian countries. Products sold on RedMart are made in collaboration with local restaurants and exclusively sold by Kurly.
Considering the diverse food culture in Singapore, Western-style meal kits, such as Truffle Cream Gnocchi, are also included in the sales list, said the company.
The retailer is considering increasing its volume and type of products exported to Singapore in the future.
