“Last year, we saw almost 10 million foldables smartphones shipped worldwide (increasing more than 300 percent from 2020). The segment that has not existed three years ago has become a key form (in the premium sector),” said Roh Tae-moon, president and head of the MX (smartphone) division after virtual unboxing of the newest Galaxy phones and gadgets as he envisioned the ratio of foldables to make up half of sales for the world’s largest smartphone maker by 2025.
The fourth generation combo builds on the success of Samsung’s pioneering form factor, adding key features, including an advanced hinge technology, a larger display and slimmer and lighter designs.
Camera capabilities have become a distinctive feature.

Roh emphasized that the new foldables have “improved in both hardware and software aspects.”
Samsung has collaborated with Meta to maximize this upgraded camera experience. The Flex mode is supported during a shooting for Instagram’s Reels and Facebook video calls.
With a single-hinge technology, the Z Fold4 has a slimmer joint than its predecessor when folded.
Battery life has also been enhanced.
The Fold4 is outfitted with the expanded 3,700mAh battery, 12 percent larger than its predecessor. With a super-fast charging system, the device can be charged up to 50 percent in around 30 minutes, keeping users connected when they are running low.
The Galaxy Z Fold4 also supports S Pen input, while delivering Samsung’s most comprehensive smartphone experience to date, offering PC-like multitasking features and immersive displays.

According to Counterpoint Research, global foldable phone shipments last year amounted to 9 million units, of which Samsung Electronics accounted for 80 percent. To maintain comfortable lead over fast rising Chinese competition, Samsung needs to widen the gap amid adverse conditions such as a growing currency headwind and economic downturn.
To keep price competitiveness, Samsung has capped price increases on the new foldables.
The Galaxy Z Flip4 and Z Fold4 starts at 1.4 million won ($1,075) and 2 million won, respectively. The two models will be available for pre-order for seven days from Aug. 16 in Korea.
Shares of Samsung Electronics rose 1 percent to 59,700 after a losing streak for three sessions.
