Korean manufacturing industry's domestic supply index up 1.5% on high imports

Domestic supply of South Korea’s manufacturing industry inched up in Q2 from a year ago on the record high proportion of imports. The domestic supply index of the manufacturing industry, which measures price fluctuations of goods including imported items, stood at 112.7, up 1.5% on year, with domestic supply down 1.4% but imports up 8.6%, according to Statistics Korea on Tuesday. The index has gone up for six consecutive quarters from Q1, last year. The share of imports in the index hit a record high of 30.7%, up 2.0% points on year due to higher raw material costs coupled with the lower Korean currency value against the U.S. dollar.
